We are the place to stay after a Ruapehu ski day. If you are spending more than one day skiing up Mt Ruapehu or just need to break up the journey, we are close to mountain and offer accommodation types to suit all budgets. 

Within 20 minutes you can be at the chairlifts and ready for a great day on the slopes of one of New Zealand’s most popular ski and snowboard areas. After the last day's run, head back to Tongariro Holiday Park for a beautiful hot spa (small private) and a good rest.

Whakapapa, on the north-western slopes of Mount Ruapehu, is New Zealand’s largest developed ski area. Within the 550 hectare (1360 acres) boundary there is excellent skiing and snowboarding for all levels.

Extensive International-standard Services and Amenities

As well as 30 groomed runs and a variety of off-piste areas for the intermediate and advanced skier and boarder, Whakapapa features the family favourite Happy Valley. Happy Valley is a learner’s area separate to the main ski area, so beginners can progress in a safe environment.

Snowboarding Mount Ruapheu

Whakapapa features purpose built half pipes and a beginner to intermediate Terrain Park for the keen boarder and free skier.

Other Ruapehu Entertainment

For all those who don’t want to miss out on playing in the snow there is a dedicated tobogganing and tubing area. Enjoy Whakapapa’s multiple cafes, ski schools and daycare options all season.

Whakapapa Village

Visit the village for gifts and souvenirs or experience Whakapapa Information Centre for interesting volcanic and cultural exhibitions with multi-media displays. Golf anyone? New Zealand’s highest Golf Course is also at Whakapapa Village.
